A focus tool that asks you to type a commitment sentence before you quit should ask in the language you actually think in. NowFocus now does: the app has a complete Arabic version, laid out right to left, with a switch inside Settings.
What is in the Arabic version
- The whole interface: sessions, profiles, rules, bedtime, limits, stats and the block screen, not only the menus.
- Right-to-left layout: screens are laid out right to left, not just translated.
- An in-app language switch: Settings offers System default, English or العربية. You do not need to change your phone’s language.
- Latin digits: numbers use 0–9 everywhere, the same as the Arabic pages of this site.
It is available in the Android app, with Windows and macOS builds carrying the same switch in early access and development respectively.
Friction that reads naturally
In Strict mode, leaving a session means typing a commitment sentence and waiting through a delay. In the Arabic version that sentence is Arabic: قررت الخروج من جلسة التركيز قبل موعدها. The point of that step is to make quitting a deliberate act, and it works better when the words are your own language, not a translation you skim over.
The same goes for the block screen. When NowFocus closes an app, it says what it closed and which rule did it, in Arabic if your app is set to Arabic.
How we wrote it
We used Modern Standard Arabic, addressing you in the second person, and kept NowFocus in Latin letters. A focus profile is a «نمط», a focus session is a «جلسة تركيز», and the Commitment Shield is «درع الالتزام». We wrote a single glossary and used it across all three apps, so a term means the same thing on your phone and on your computer.
A native reader would help
We wrote the Arabic text ourselves, and not every word has been reviewed by a native speaker yet. A few terms are our proposals, such as the one for a limit pass. If something reads awkwardly or wrongly to you, tell us at [email protected] and we will fix it. The Arabic web pages, including this manifesto, are the same register.
Where to try it
Install the Android build, then open Settings and choose العربية. The same switch is under Settings on Windows and macOS. If you also want to read the app’s privacy and behaviour in Arabic, the Arabic Android guide walks through it.
Frequently asked questions
Does NowFocus have an Arabic version?
Yes. The Android app has a full Arabic interface with right-to-left layout, and you can switch language in Settings between System default, English and العربية. Windows and macOS builds have the same switch.
Do I have to change my phone language to use Arabic?
No. The switch inside NowFocus Settings changes the app’s language on its own, without touching your phone’s system language.
Is the Arabic reviewed by a native speaker?
Not fully yet. We wrote the text with a shared glossary, and we are asking Arabic readers to point out anything that sounds wrong. Write to [email protected].
